How to Monitor DaVinci Resolve Renders Remotely

Monitor the queue without staying at the workstation

Long exports often run while the editor or colorist moves to another room or task. A local-network monitor can report live queue status without uploading project information or render data to a cloud service.

The monitoring workflow should be established before the critical delivery begins. A short test render verifies that Resolve scripting, local-network discovery, pairing, progress reporting, remote controls, and notifications are all behaving as expected.

How Render Queue Monitor fits into the workflow

The desktop Host reads the Resolve Studio queue and makes it available to the paired iPhone app while Resolve remains in control of the render. The phone becomes a focused status, control, and notification endpoint.

Step-by-step workflow

1. Install the correct Host build

Install Render Queue Monitor Host for Apple silicon macOS or Windows x64 on the workstation running Resolve Studio. Complete any operating-system network-access or firewall prompts before pairing.

2. Enable local scripting in Resolve Studio

In DaVinci Resolve Studio, open Preferences and set External scripting using to Local. Restart Resolve and the Host after changing the setting, then open the project whose render queue you want to monitor.

3. Launch the Host and inspect its status

Confirm the Host is running in the macOS menu bar or Windows notification area. It should identify the local Resolve connection before the phone attempts to read queue data.

4. Pair Render Queue Monitor on the iPhone

Choose Pair Device from the Host menu and scan the one-time QR code in the iPhone app. Name the saved Host clearly when multiple edit bays, finishing rooms, or home workstations are available.

5. Build a representative test queue

Add at least two short jobs in Resolve’s Deliver page. Use different names or formats so it is easy to verify that the iPhone app is displaying the correct job order and details.

6. Confirm live monitoring

Start the queue from Resolve and watch Render Queue Monitor report the active job, progress, and estimated time remaining. Verify the transition from active to completed and the next queued job becoming active.

7. Configure remote controls deliberately

Enable Host controls only if the paired phone should be able to start selected jobs, start the full queue, or stop the active render. Test each permitted action with disposable jobs before using it during a delivery.

8. Test completion and failure notifications

Complete one short render, then create a controlled failure if appropriate for the workstation. Confirm that the iPhone reports both outcomes and that notification permissions remain enabled.

9. Use the monitor during production renders

Once the test is complete, keep the workstation awake and connected, start the real queue, and move away as needed. Use the phone for status and alerts, but return to Resolve whenever a failed job, questionable output, or delivery decision requires direct inspection.

Troubleshooting pairing

• If discovery fails, confirm both devices are on the same local subnet or that the remote VPN routes to the workstation’s network.
• If the Host is blocked, allow it through the workstation firewall on private networks.
• If Resolve is unavailable to the Host, restart both applications after changing the external scripting preference.
